Bonjour à tous, c’est Sir Kyrou et aujourd’hui nous nous attaquons à un grand jeu !
Vous vous souvenez du 23 Novembre 2001 ? Non ? C’est pourtant le jour de sortie d’un jeu qui reste pour beaucoup aujourd’hui un des meilleurs jeux jamais réalisés. Je parle bien sûr de Silent Hill 2, développé/édité par Konami et sorti 3 ans après le premier opus qui avait déjà suscité une certaine influence dans le genre du survival-horror. Il fallait donc faire mieux qu’avant sur tous les points… Voyons si ce pari est réussi.
UN SYNOPSIS INTRIGUANT
Une fois la galette dans la console, après une vidéo d’introduction assez inoubliable, on se retrouve dans la peau de James Sunderland. Il débarque à Silent Hill après avoir reçu une lettre de sa femme Mary, lui disant de s’y rendre. Seul hic : elle est décédée pas moins de trois ans auparavant ! Bon alors notre James, bien sûr, décide de se rendre sans broncher à Silent Hill au cas où sa femme serait mystérieusement encore en vie pour des raisons obscures et que, éventuellement, il la retrouve, vive heureux avec elle et qu’ils aient beaucoup d’enfants dépressifs ! Vous voilà donc seul, déjà livré à vous même sur un parking à l’entrée de Silent Hill et simplement muni d’une carte. La descente à Silent Hill est le premier moment du jeu qui peut vous marquer au fer rouge au bout d’à peine 5 minutes de jeu. En effet, c’est un passage qui résume – je trouve – à lui seul le sentiment de solitude qu’on éprouve tout au long du jeu, et aussi celui de James. Nous verrons d’ailleurs plus tard que l’empathie que l’on peut ressentir pour le personnage principal est une des grandes forces du jeu.
DES MÉCANIQUES BIEN RODÉES
Le gameplay, parlons-en. Outre une caméra peu maniable de temps à autres, le tout est juste jouissif pour peu qu’on aime fouiller partout et SE CREUSER LA TÊTE. Parce que oui, chez certains, Silent Hill 2 se résume à une succession d’aller-retours sans but, mais ce n’est pas tout détrompez vous. Vous verrez les environnements « normaux », que vous allez connaître par cœur et redécouvrir dans l’Else World. Un monde parallèle aux allures beaucoup plus glauques reflétant les démons de notre héros, où ces derniers seront matérialisés, donnant des environnements changés et confrontant incessamment James à une forme d’inquiétante étrangeté. Les monstres -dont je parlerai en détail plus tard – peuvent, à quelques exceptions près, être évités. Si vous avez une conscience et si vous voulez garder vos munitions pour les gros méchants, économisez vos munitions, c’est qu’il faut faire d’ailleurs (expérience personnelle inside). Je disais plus haut qu’il fallait se creuser la tête : je parlais bien entendu des énigmes du jeu, qui vont vous prendre du temps suivant votre QI, la teinte de vos cernes et la difficulté choisie. Car oui, la difficulté des énigmes est gérée indépendamment de celle du jeu. Vous pouvez jouer en facile avec les énigmes en difficile, ce qui est un concept très bien trouvé et plus qu’intéressant. À cela se rajoutent des concepts originaux comme le fait qu’on ne puisse pas regarder sa carte si la lumière n’est pas suffisante ou l’absence de HUD (Affichage tête haute), forçant le joueur à passer par le menu pause pour voir l’état de sa santé. On note aussi quelques passages où on escorte un PNJ, mais ils sont relativement peu nombreux.
UNE ANGOISSE OMNIPRÉSENTE
L’ambiance de Silent Hill et le rôle de la peur méritent bien une partie complète de cette critique. Je vous parlais dans la première partie de l’arrivée à Silent Hill qui m’avait beaucoup marqué, c’est aussi parce que ce passage, ces cinq minutes à marcher seul pour arriver à Silent Hill, posent dès le début l’ambiance pesante du titre de Konami, et c’est quelque chose que je trouve assez rare dans le domaine du jeu vidéo, une ambiance instaurée dès les premières minutes de l’aventure. Une ambiance qui reste la même jusqu’au bout. Une gestion de la peur très, très, très bonne. Vraiment. Alors que de nos jours la peur se résume à une ambiance un tantinet malsaine et à un abus de la « peur facile » à coup de jump-scares (BOUH TU SURSAUTES T’AS PEUR), Silent Hill 2 était à l’époque de sa sortie le meilleur survival-horror du moment, accompagné par le portage de Resident Evil Code : Veronica X sur PS2 la même année. Un jeu qui peut vous donner la boule au ventre du début à la fin, le tout accompagné de sueurs froides, c’est assez rare en 2013. L’absence de HUD renforce encore plus cette angoisse et pousse l’immersion à son paroxysme. Les créatures qui peuplent Silent Hill sont un point fort en ce qui concerne l’angoisse. Elles représentent les craintes, l’insatisfaction et les remords chroniques de notre héros ; ainsi l’infirmière, par exemple, ne symboliserait rien d’autre que la frustration sexuelle de James. Malsain, n’est-ce pas ? Et le monstre emblématique de cet épisode, Pyramid Head… La première rencontre avec ce dernier est un des moments les plus forts du jeu. Ne serait-ce que pour la scène du viol connue de tous, même ceux qui n’ont pas touché au jeu. Tout ces ennemis qui, encore aujourd’hui, ont le droit à une communauté qui veut les représenter. Je peux vous renvoyer aux travaux de Sombre Plume et Zalla, qui valent le détour.
POUR UN JEU TECHNIQUEMENT RÉUSSI
Ah, les graphismes. On est ici un an et demi seulement après la première sortie de la PS2 ( Japon : 4 Mars 2000 ) et c’est magnifique. Qu’on soit dans le monde réel ou dans l’Elseworld, ça claque. Le moteur full-3D est juste extraordinaire. Le design des personnages est de très bonne qualité, notre héros est un monsieur tout le monde en terme de physique, pas de gros bras musclés ou autre, ce qui permet une meilleure identification du joueur au personnage. Les modèles des PNJ sont eux aussi de très bonne qualité. La bande-son quant à elle… LA BANDE-SON ! Akira Yamaoka aux commandes pour des thèmes inoubliables et forts en émotions. Le thème de Laura, pour ne pas le citer, est encore aujourd’hui considéré par beaucoup (dont moi même) comme l’un des meilleurs thèmes jamais écrits. Pour l’anecdote, ce dernier a pris à lui seul trois jours pour être composé.
Silent Hill 2 est une œuvre intimiste qui vous plonge dans un voyage rétrospectif et introspectif qui ne plaira pas à tout le monde, mais qui, pour peu qu’on s’y accroche, est tout simplement jouissif. Suivre l’histoire, ressentir les émotions du héros (coucou, monsieur Cage)… Ici chez GameurZ, on est plusieurs à adorer ce monument du survival-horror, et que dire d’autre si ce n’est « T’as pas fait Silent Hill 2 ? Alors tu n’es pas complet » ? Quittons-nous sur une citation de Lactantius qui est, je trouve, bien adaptée à la série des Silent Hill : « Efficiunt Daemones, ut quae non sunt, sic tamen quasi sint, conspicienda hominibus exhibeant. », ce qui peut être traduit par : « Les démons ont la capacité de susciter à la vue des hommes des choses qui n’existent pas comme si elles étaient réelles».

Silent Hill 2 : monument du jeu d’horreur et plus généralement milestone dans la courte histoire du jeu vidéo… Un titre auquel tout le monde devrait avoir touché au moins une fois dans sa vie afin de comprendre l’horreur pure, l’horreur psychologique. « L’enfer c’est les autres » et dans Silent Hill 2 les autres c’est une ville reflet aux mille visages tous plus fous les uns que les autres… Heureusement pour les plus réfractaires à la SD, le jeu a récemment été remastérisé et vous pouvez le trouvez en version affiné sur consoles actuelles ! |
